Jean-Jacques Beineix appeared in the French cinema in the early 80’s to announce with his magical «Diva» the arrival of a completely modern and brilliantly stylized cinema where image would be acclaimed as the supreme fetish.
Through the story of an illegal recording, a renowned opera singer as the victim and key figures a young admirer of her and a series of marginal types and dangerous villains, Beineix films as if he is drunk by the exceptionally elegant footage he is capturing and turns modern Paris into a charming metropolis of wonders and dangers in the heart of which he places an atmospheric contemporary noir.
