A double dose of cinematic comedy with a view of the Acropolis

There was joyful chaos beneath the Acropolis on Saturday night, as countless spectators gathered on the pedestrianised Dionysiou Areopagitou Street for the hilarious double feature presented by the 16th Athens Open Air Film Festival powered by DEI.

Some sat on chairs, others stretched out along the surrounding pavements, perched on low walls or stood throughout the screenings. Everyone, however, was smiling and in high spirits, laughing out loud and applauding, united by the same blend of surreal humour and biting parody offered by Airplane! and Top Secret!

The two classic comedies were selected by the 16th Athens Open Air Film Festival powered by DEI as a carefree farewell to its audience before the next screening, following a short summer break, and as a gesture of gratitude for the enthusiastic turnout at all of this year’s events.

It is worth noting that, to date, more than 7,000 spectators have attended the events of the 16th AOAFF, filling some of the capital’s most beautiful locations with unforgettable cinema and screenings of the highest audiovisual quality.

Thank you very much for your overwhelming response. We wish you a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you again on Monday, 24 August, at the LAIS Open-Air Cinema at the Greek Film Archive, for Maurice Pialat’s À nos amours. The film will return to the big screen after many years, presented in a digitally restored version.

The photographs from Saturday’s screenings were taken by Yannis Stefanidis.

The 16th Athens Open Air Film Festival powered by DEI is co-organised with the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organisation.
