The 12th Athens Open Air Film Festival will commence with the premiere of THE LOST DAUGHTER, in attendance of the director Maggie Gyllenhaal

The Athens International Film Festival joyously announces the official opening of the 12thAthens Open Air Film Festival with the Greek premiere of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s THE LOST DAUGHTER, in attendance of the director herself as well as that of the well-established actor Peter Sarsgaard and other Greek members of the film’s cast and crew.

The 12th Athens Open Air Film Festival embarks on its summer journey on Tuesday 14th June 2022, at the majestic Attica Grove Theatre, hosting the Greek premiere of the triple Academy Award nominated film ( Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Adapted Screenplay) and winner of the Best Screenplay award at the Venice Film Festival, THE LOST DAUGHTER by Maggie Gyllenhaal

The screening will take place in attendance of the award-winning actor, screenwriter and director, the well-established actor Peter Sarsgaard and other Greek members of the film’s cast and crew. 

“The Lost Daughter”, based on one of the most popular novels by Italy’s Elena Ferrante, is a marvellous directorial debut for the American actor. Filmed in Spetses, the film boasts an exquisite cast (Olivia Colman, Peter Sarsgaard, Ed Harris and Dakota Johnson as well as the up-and-coming Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal ) and has already received international rave reviews from audiences and film critics alike. 

As far as the Greek side of the cast is concerned Nikos Poursanidis, Panos Koronis, Alexandros Mylonas, Konstantinos Samaa and Spyros Maragoudakis appear in the film. 

The film The Lost Daughter will soon premiere on Nova cinema’s channels.

Based on Elena Ferrante’s similarly-titled novel. 

Synopsis: Leda (Olivia Colman) is enjoying her solitary holidays in Spetses when she gradually becomes involved with a young mother (Dakota Johnson) and her daughter, who she runs into on the same beach daily. In the presence of the intense relationship between mother and daughter, Leda is overcome by her own memories and complicated feelings of love, turmoil and tension from her own premature experience of motherhood. A mysterious urge makes her confront the controversial choices she made as a young mother and mainly the consequences of those choices. 

We would like to thank SPENTZOS FILM for allowing us to screen the film. THE LOST DAUGHTER will open in Greek cinemas on June 30th. 

The highly-anticipated premiere will be deliciously accompanied by film lovers’ beer of choice Fischer beer, continuing their refreshing collaboration with the Αthens Open Air Film Festival for yet another year.
