Zelig

It has been exactly 30 years since Woody Allen presented the movie “Zelig” (1983) in a relatively lesser-known moment of his filmography (especially in Greece), but nonetheless a great one. ‘Zelig” is a pioneering, multi-layered mockumentary about a man who collapses under the burden of his need for acceptance.

By pleasantly re-creating the aesthetics of the time to which he refers, and extensively using altered archival material, «Zelig» remains one of the funniest, yet at the same time deeply melancholic, films of this beloved New-Yorker.

When: Monday 22nd July, at 21:00
Where: Byzantine Museum garden (see map below)
Free entrance

It has been exactly 30 years since Woody Allen presented the movie “Zelig” (1983) in a relatively lesser-known moment of his filmography (especially in Greece), but nonetheless a great one. ‘Zelig” is a pioneering, multi-layered mockumentary about a man who collapses under the burden of his need for acceptance.

It is about Leonard Zelig (played by Allen himself of course), who – supposedly – became famous in America in the 20’s because of his natural ability to unconsciously adopt features from whomever he meets, in order to be likeable. As the public opinion and the scientific community surround him in order to study this unprecedented case of self-transformation, a female psychiatrist (Mia Farrow) is the one who tries to cure him with her intelligence, but also her love.
