10-year-old Zazie goes to Paris to spend a weekend at her eccentric uncle’s house, so that her mother can find time for her lover. The young wildcat, though, has no intention of sitting still. As she gets away from under uncle Gabriel’s watch, she wanders around the crazy – and full of peculiarities – Paris, having as a sole wish to get into the metro. The fact that the workers are keeping it closed is no more than an insignificant detail.

“Zazie in the Metro” (1960), one of the most distinctive movies in the anyhow adventurous filmography of Louis Malle, follows the steps of its eponymous and extremely popular novel by Raymond Queneau. Malle dares to intervene several times in the original material, which many rushed to deem impossible to adapt and brings to life on screen a magical story of adulthood - this “forced” one of the pioneers of Nouvelle Vague, Francois Truffaut, to express his enthusiasm in writing.
