Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages

Our second and final screening with music is that of "Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages", a silent film from Sweden and a study of how superstition and the misunderstanding of diseases and mental illness could lead to the hysteria of the witch-hunts.

The Athens Open Air Film Festival is especially proud to host every year its special screenings with music - those screenings for which we present a favourite silent film of ours accompanied by original music, written specifically for the event.

Our second and final screening with music is that of "Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages", a silent film from Sweden, written and directed by Benjamin Christensen, a study of how superstition and the misunderstanding of diseases and mental illness could lead to the hysteria of the witch-hunts. The film was made as a documentary but contains dramatized sequences that are comparable to horror films.

The evening's music will be by the Greek band No Clear Mind.
