The strangest black comedy of recent years, the return of the great William Friedkin to the filmmaking he is most suited to, and the absolute revelation in Matthew McConaughey, in an eagerly-anticipated avant premiere at the Athens Open Air Film Festival.

On 12th September one of the most enjoyable (and, occasionally, stomach-turning) black comedies of the year will be screened at the Athens Open Air Film Festival: “Killer Joe” by William Friedkin is now the avant premiere for September, replacing “Killing Them Softly” whose release was postponed by the Weinstin brothers. Its replacements is the strangest black comedy of recent years, the return of the great William Friedkin to the filmmaking he is most suited to, and the absolute revelation in Matthew McConaughey, in an eagerly-anticipated avant premiere at the Athens Open Air Film Festival.

Heavily in debt and increasingly desperate, Chris, a minor drug dealer, decides that the only way out of mortal danger is to organize his mother’s murder and collect the insurance money. He hires Joe Cooper, a professional hitman who also doubles as a police detective. He doesn’t have the down payment Joe asks for and so he is forced to give Joe his sister, Dottie, as a retainer.

Matthew McConaughey gives the performance of his lifetime as the dangerous, mysterious Joe in a film completely different to anything he is known for, and William Friedkin sets a sick family story which will equally shock and entertain you!
