The 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival, kindly supported by the Greek National Tourism Organization, kicks off on June 11, 2013 with the screening of "Before Midnight". The premiere will be attended by director Richard Linklater and leading actors Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, as well as members of the supporting cast, including local actors Xenia Kalogeropoulou and Yiannis Papadopoulos, filmmakers Athina Rachel Tsangari and Panos Koronis - who play a rather delightful couple – and, last but not least, French actress Ariane Labed. Legendary cinematographer Walter Lassally, of "Zorba the Greek" fame, also makes an unforgettable appearance.

The film is a Faliro House production, domestically distributed by Feelgood Entertainment starting June 13.

The Athens Open Air Film Festival is organised by the Athens International Film Festival-Opening Nights (soon to celebrate its 19th edition), CINEMA Magazine and its official website www.cinemagazine.gr.

The festival includes film screenings and live music performances in parks, streets and open-air movie theaters, as well as discussions and workshops, all free of charge.

This year’s edition is organised with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), while the festival’s main partner is the Greek Film Center.

Another Side of Athens

The premiere will be covered by international media, whose representatives have been invited to explore another side of Athens, a city overflowing with culture and history that defies the collective frenzy caused by the credit crunch. A city we know and love. It’s time the rest world knew about it as well.

Major productions like "Before Midnight", prove that the Greek spirit of entrepreneurship is alive and well and can meet culture half way, playing a definitive part in the development of the country.

Which is exactly why the Athens Open Air Film Festival is only too happy to embrace it, as its summer programming unfolds across the streets of Athens, confident that open-air screenings under the starry sky can work miracles for the city’s cultural appeal.

They’re a surefire boost for its image too, offering residents a cultural oasis of high entertainment value.

"Before Midnight" is the final installment of Richard Linklater’s famous trilogy that first started in 1995 with "Before Sunrise" and continued with "Before Sunset" in 2004. Both films received their Greek premiere within the context of the Athens International Film Festival-Opening Nights, in its 1st and 10th editions respectively.

About Faliro House

"Before Midnight" is a Faliro House production, headed by Christos V. Konstantakopoulos, shot on location in Peloponesse. The film showcases the region’s beauty in a purely cinematic light that has very little to do with folklore.

Local attractions are incorporated in the storyline with the outermost respect for the Greek landscape, which pretty much makes this film the most creative advertisement this country has ever seen!

Although Faliro House is a relatively young company, it has gained a lot of traction by investing in local productions and cultivating major collaborations with overseas partners. Apart from homegrown titles, like "Attenberg" by Athina Rachel Tsangari, "L" by Babis Makridis and "Alps" by Yorgos Lanthimos, Faliro House co-produced Jim Jarmusch’ "Only Lovers Left Alive", screened in competition at the recent Cannes Film Festival, while the company has signed on to co-produce Terence Malick’s next project.

The 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival Line-up

This is only the beginning for the 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival, which has scheduled screenings all through the summer, leading up to the Athens International Film Festival-Opening Nights in September.

This year, the festival includes some oldies but goldies, a smattering of summer blockbusters, a few indie diamonds in the rough, a handful of groundbreaking shorts and a handpicked selection of Greek films that have left their mark on national cinema.

Just like every summer, the program will include silent films, accompanied by a live soundtrack especially composed for the occasion by Greek musicians.

The full line-up will be revealed in the next few days.

Entrance to the screening of "Before Midnight" is by invitation only.
