The Greek Film Center and the Athens International Film Festival join forces to prepare a film event that aims to link the life in the city with the art of cinema.

The Athens Open Air Film Festival organizes outdoor events against the backdrop of the most distinctive monuments of Athens, and in the most unexpected locations, which showcase the urban landscape (squares, parks, pedestrian areas). Once a week, in central areas of the city, the festival will present film screenings, concerts, masterclasses, premieres of short films and much more.

The primary goal of this event, which will run from July until September, is to draw attention towards the centre of Athens and its suburbs, so that the residents and the visitors are reacquainted with the city. Out of a wide selection of films, ranging from the most popular ones to the most uncommon, from short to feature-filmmaking attempts by the representatives of the new Greek cinema and subversive artistic suggestions of “mixed means” fusing cinema with music, the two film organizations of Greece offer three uplifting artistic months, full of passion, and love for cinema and art.

The Athens Open Air Film Festival is organized by the Greek Film Center and the Athens International Film Festival and is co-financed by the European Fund of Regional Development and is incorporated in the Priority Axis 2 “Sustainable Development and Improvement of Life Quality” of the Regional Operational Program «Attica» NSRF 2007-2013. All the events are carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports.
