At the end of the '70s, the Greek-australian director created a unique mythology of adventure that many have since imitated, he placed it at the heart of a nightmarish future world, attempted through it a vivid combination of ultra violent comics, modern western and dystopian vision and unleashed it arrogantly and full of energy in cinemas everywhere. The fairytale of “Mad Max” began timidly but determinedly in 1979, acquired futuristic dimensions and a dynamic reach in the sequels that followed and, 35 years later, came to gloriously resurrect its lonely hero.
Wandering perpetually on a decimated planet, Max again takes on the role of the reluctant savior helping a handful of people to break free from the shackles of a brutal tyrant and move closer to their independence. This time, however, he is not the dominant driver at the wheel of the plot, but he shares it worthily with a courageous woman: a fierce rebel who undertakes the mission to travel five female slaves to a promising land that is supposed to be hidden somewhere deep in the horizon.
Facing the rules of the macho adventure through a highly feminist prism, Miller retrieves the same ecological concerns of his previous films in the series and fits them into the logic of a two-hour pursuit to the very end. As a craving acrobatical choreography of bodies and machines, "Fury Road" becomes a dazzling visual symphony of metal with fire and dust, inventing scenes of such amazing action and imagination in the details that require more than one viewing in order to be fully absorberd and appreciated. An opera of speed and exaggeration, “Fury Road” is not only a brilliant glorification of action cinema but also a soothing antidote to the lifeless and uninspired superhero parades that Hollywood has been offering us for years.Magnificent.
